Covid-19 Update

Like our members, LeadingAge North Carolina is taking concrete steps to prepare for the new reality we all face in dealing with the coronavirus.  The LeadingAge North Carolina Annual Conference and Expo is scheduled to move forward as planned on May 18-21 at the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. Members continue to steadily register, our exhibit hall is sold out, and the hotel block is filling up quickly!

While we understand there are several unknowns as to what the future may hold in the next few weeks and months as it relates to the virus, please know we will continue to monitor updates provided by the CDC, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, and other local and national governmental agencies.

We are committed to making the Annual Conference and Expo a safe, healthy and successful event.  We are in continuous communication with LeadingAge national and our sister LeadingAge state affiliates to discuss best practices as we all work to determine next steps based on the ever-changing information related to the coronavirus.  We are also communicating directly with the Omni Grove Park Inn, who has assured us they are taking necessary precautions through the direction of the CDC and the U.S. Travel Association.  They will continue to follow existing strict guidelines and health codes for public interaction, staff training, cleaning and maintenance, and food handling/preparation.

Conference attendees are encouraged to do the following (which includes specific recommendations from the CDC:

  • Do not attend the conference if you are not feeling well or are experiencing any symptoms of illness whatsoever. For your sake and the sake of all attendees, please stay home.
  • Clean your hands often and avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. If soap and water is not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. While many will travel with a small bottle for personal use, hand sanitizer will be made available onsite.
  • Practice proper coughing etiquette. Cough into your elbow or a tissue. If you cough into a tissue, discard the tissue into a trash can and immediately wash your hands.
  • Avoid close contact. No handshaking! You are welcome to greet each other with an elbow tap or fist bump.

Feel free to contact the association office with any questions you may have.
