Technology Use & Planning

How is your community:

1) integrating technology into resident living units and beyond?  Some examples of this would be: voice control systems that can interact with lighting; setting schedules; creating shopping lists; and more. 

2) planning for future technology needs, ie: what systems are you putting in place now so that you will be prepared for tomorrow?

We are not investing in devices to place in residences across the community since many residents have their own personal devices and preferences. We are investing in and have installed a strong medical grade WiFi infrastructure that can support devices. We are currently evaluating how best to take all of our communities to 5G capability in the coming years. We do use technology for resident security and emergency devices. Our focus is on the infrastructure for devices to work and not on the devices themselves due to the cost of devices and quick amount of time in which devices become obsolete.

· Updating in unit Wi-Fi capacity
· Assessing emergency power back up to Wi-Fi in order to ensure continuation of serve during power interruptions.
· Incorporating Echo/Google Home/Apple Home capable devices such as outlets, switches, thermostats, etc.
· As we speak to software vendors we are evaluating their capacity to address resident directed access to relevant info that supports resident lifestyles.

Our focus is not around a specific product, but building the infrastructure that will enable us to adapt whatever technologies emerge. It is our belief that building upon the Echo/etc. platforms will provide us the greatest ability to adapt to resident preferences and new technologies. We are not interested in jumping in with one vendor that may be obsolete quickly.

We just contracted with Senior Portal, which will provide a wide selection of services to residents, which covers many of the items listed here. In addition, we have implemented campus-wide wireless technology that offers residents multiple speed options. The Senior Portal system will be accessible from any mobile device, laptops, desktops, and a central kiosk placed in our administrative building.
