We hold fast to the drug test policy, and we often have to turn people away because of it.

We recently had a conversation about this issue.

We have not yet experienced difficulty in filling food service positions with well-qualified candidates.
We believe that potential applicants likely self-select out of applying based on our pre-hire screening practices.
There was also conversation about whether the ubiquity of information on the internet about how to “outsmart” lab tests might increasingly be a factor allowing more candidates to pass the screenings.

If the national trend to decriminalize marijuana use continues, we are likely to re-visit the conversation.

Our conversation has been more toward switching from a urine test to a saliva test. Our understating is that the saliva test only shows positive if the use has been within the last 48 hours or so whereas marijuana presence in urine is more like 30 days.
