Security Bike Patrol
Does your community have a security patrol on bike? And if yes, how does that operate?

We do not use anyone on bikes. We use a person in a golf cart, weathering permitting, otherwise they are in a car. One person in on patrol 24 hours per day.

No, we use car and golf carts. I like the bike idea though, might attract younger folks into those positions.

We did for a short time and then staff changed and so apparently so did their willingness/desire to ride bikes. Because our campus now includes the development next door they feel cars are a better way to make their rounds.

We don’t use a bike, but have a marked security vehicle that we use.

We recently introduced a bike patrol for my 2nd shift guards on a test basis. The guards are using their personal bikes which I require to have lights and they need to wear helmets at all times of operation. Our campus is 110 acres, mostly flat. We also have a lake with a walking trail around it. During the first couple of months of bike patrols, I received nothing but praise from our residents, staff and security guards assigned to the bikes. The guards find getting from point “A” to point “B” mush quicker on bikes than golf carts. Mind you, this will be seasonal operation due to climate changes.

Our budget for next year will include for the purchase of two professional patrol bikes with gear including a bike rack with a 1st aid kit. I purchased light weight bike shirts that have reflective material built in and are light weight.

I hope this helped you out with any information you were looking for. Please feel to contact me at any time.
