Top Five HR Legal Quagmires for Continuing Care Retirement Communities in 2019
The following topics will be discussed: wage and benefit issues, managing employee attendance, ADA accommodations, sexual harassment and religion at work. These topics will take attendees through the legal framework that applies to “quagmire” areas—the events that can derail an HR professional’s work, disrupt and distract employees, and land an employer in court. Led by practicing employment law attorneys, the session will prepare HR managers to see issues on the horizon, before they ripen into full-blown legal affairs, and how to manage them for early compliance and resolution. Attendees will also learn how to develop systems to administer legal requirements daily and skills to react when unusual situations arise.

Alex Maultsby, Partner, Fox Rothschild, LLP.
Alex provides employment counseling, advice and litigation services to clients across a broad span of industries. He frequently appears before the state and federal courts in North Carolina, and has handled or appeared in cases in Georgia and South Carolina as well as California, Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland and New York.

Patti West Ramseur, Partner, Fox Rothschild, LLP
Patti is a partner in the firm's Labor & Employment Practice. Well-versed in a full range of counseling and litigation for employers, she knows and zealously represents her clients. Before state and federal courts and administrative agencies, Patti represents employers for claims under Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, the FMLA, the FLSA, the REDA, the Sarbanes Oxley Act and AIR-21. She also has experience litigating and arbitrating cases involving claims of sexual harassment, intentional/negligent infliction of emotional distress, wrongful discharge, wage and hour disputes, unemployment compensation, contractual disputes, covenants not to compete and misappropriation of trade secrets.

With massive changes in the generational makeup of the American workforce on the horizon, making great hires and retaining those employees takes on a new importance. This training examines practices that could be hindering making and keeping those hires.

Many may remember Kristin as presenter at our 2019 Annual Conference!  Kristin Scroggin has her Masters in Communication Studies, Bachelors in Communication Arts and was a Communications Lecturer at the University of Alabama in Huntsville for 11 years. Her passion is generational diversity and for the past five years she has spoken at conferences and organizations across the United States ranging from Fortune 500 companies to small non-profits. Obsessed with travel and desperate to see the world, she and her husband try to keep their heads above water while parenting their four children and any foster children who come their way.
